mysql cli is not a good test, because do not use same code that TestLink.

get latest installer from Bitnami and retest

you need to check permissions ON MYSQL for user root from host where you have installed TestLink

I used the Bitnami MySQL installer.
The result is the same.

MySQL and Testlink are hosted on the same host.
Granted user priviliges in MySQL are exactly the same as with the original MySQL server installation.

Using Bitnami is near impossible to have same isue

I confirm the Bitnami version is working neither.
However login with root account via phpMyAdmin is working fine (which is php based like the Testling installer).

Only thing I can do is get bitnami installer, install in my mac or my linux laptop and provide feedback.
No other action can be done.

I solved the problem.
The web server account wasn't able to access the mysql.sock file.
It wasn't related to the MySQL version.
