Summary0007576: (IE11 - German locale specific) - Test result can't be saved for all Tests with path > 40 chars after update 1.9.10 to 1.9.14
DescriptionHi. After we’ve updated Testlink from Version 1.9.10 to 1.9.14 we encounter problems during test-execution. With some Test-Cases the Test-Result cannot be saved.
Here is what I found so far:

- It depends on the length of the path in the tree, if a Test-Result can be saved or not. Here an Example of our tree:
 - PINK (Test project, 4 characters)
? - Regressiontest (Testsuite, 14 characters)
-This is a Testcase for Padawan (Testcase, 30 characters)
The result of the example above cannot be saved, because its length in total is 48 Characters (4+14+30). If I change any description (Testsuite or Testcase) that the total amount of characters is 40 or less, then it will work.
- Total characters 40 or less >> all ok
- Total characters 41 or more >> saving does not work
- No error-message appears.
- We have the execution notes and results on testteps active (in case this information is important)
Steps To ReproduceAfter Update from 1.9.10 to 1.9.14 we go to testexecution on any Project and try to save the result.

- Total characters 40 or less >> all ok
- Total characters 41 or more >> saving does not work
Additional InformationThe same result occur if I create a new Project.

If we install Testlink without migrating the data from 1.9.10, then all is ok.

detailed step by step to reproduce are needed.
See forum.testlink.org for info regarding how to report an issue and
http://mantis.testlink.org/view.php?id=7042 [^]

without detailed steps that allow to be sure both are using same use case, it will be impossible to work on this

Hi. I really spent days searching the forums, the internet, and comparing files from Testlink 1.9.10 and 1.9.14.

Finally I found the Problem. It's Internet Explorer 11.

Testcases with more than 40 characters (including all the tree elements) cannot be exectuted.

As a Workaround we added Testlink in IE11 to the "compatibility view". Then it will work.

This is the second issue we have with IE11 (first one is that copy and paste does not work in IE11). We don't have an other choice than to use IE (government policy). We can live with this workaround and hope that this issue with IE will be addressed in the near future.

Thank you fman for your time and all your effort. I really appreciate it.

Hi fman

I just wanted to add that we found a solution that is ok for us and share it here. We added the following meta-tag in the header of testlink:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9"/>

This way all the issues we had with IE11 are gone and no tester need to ad Testlink manually to the compatibility view.

I've got the necessary information from following link (in German):

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/iede/2013/12/02/ie891011-compatibility-viewwie-kann-manuell-serverbasiert-oder-per-policy-das-verhalten-beeinflusst-werden/ [^]

Still hoping that Testlink will work properly with IE11, but for now we can use it with this solution.

Thanks again.

Since I ran into this same issue, I thought it might help if I added some more info that I have noticed.

I am running Internet Explorer 11 on Win 7, both in German. The issue for us happens only in IE11, and only if the user's language in TestLink is set to German.
I have tried English UK, English US, Finnish, and Czech, and all four languages work on the test cases for which results cannot be saved in German.

And, as has been noted, the issue happens only in IE 11; in Firefox and Opera I can save test results for all test cases, including those that cannot be saved in IE 11.

I hope this additional bit of information helps in some way.
